About Premium Content appointed global distributor on new drama series

7 March 2017. VIAPLAY has commissioned a new big-budget drama series Alex from the leading Swedish production company SF Studios, teaming with independent producer Nevision as co-producer.

SF Studios, creators of the Easy Money trilogy, and Nevision will jointly produce the 6 x 44’ fast-paced thriller for the international marketplace. French boutique distribution company About Premium Content (APC) has arranged the co-production and has been appointed worldwide sales agent for the series outside Scandinavia and Benelux (which will be handled by Lumière).

Principal shooting starts in March in Gothenburg with completion in the summer of 2017. Alex will be shot in Swedish. The series will premiere on Viaplay during the spring of 2018.

Alex is produced at SF Studios by Nicklas Wikström Nicastro (Academy Award nominated “A Man Called Ove”) and co-produced by Film Väst for Viaplay. The principal script writers are Niklas Rockström (”Before We Die”) and Michael Hjorth (”Sebastian Bergman”). Alex is based on an original concept by Dragomir “Gago” Mrsic and Mikael Cross.

Acclaimed Easy Money actor Dragomir Mrsic takes the lead as the eponymous, ruthless, corrupt police detective Alex Stefanovic who has decided to come to terms with his dubious past and come clean. His attempts to rectify his life are interrupted by dark forces he once collaborated with, putting both Alex and his family’s lives at great danger. In the midst of this turmoil Alex gets a new partner, Frida, who secretly has been instructed to bring him down.

The series is set in a dark and callous Gothenburg, where the criminal underworld is intruding more and more into the protected Swedish society. The concept for Alex was created by Mrsic, who has first-hand experience of the world the series takes place in.

Alex is a dream project that we, along with Gago, have worked on for a long time. The scripts are really sharp and edgy and it feels incredibly inspiring to be able to realize this project together with our friends at Nevision/APC,” says series producer Nicklas Wikström Nicastro.

James Cabourne, Executive Chairman at Nevision says: “Our goal is to create impactful drama for a global audience working with the best production and acting talent – Alex ticks all the boxes. SF Studios is an established and acclaimed production company and we are thrilled to be partnering with them on this exciting new drama series which we believe has the potential for worldwide appeal. With APC on board as distributor we are in a strong position to roll the series out internationally.”
